Xiaoping Hu, CEO and Founder
Xiaoping Hu was born in 1963 in Hunan, China. He entered Tsinghua University in 1978 to study Electrical Engineering and graduated with B.E. in 1983. That same year, he was admitted to the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and obtained M. Sc. in Information Science in 1986. In 1987, he was offered an assistantship by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for Ph.D. study and he obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Vision in 1993. After a short period of post-doctoral research, Dr. Hu joined Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley as a software engineer. He then worked in S3 Inc., Chips & Technologies and Sigma Designs as SW engineers and architects until 1998, when he became the Systems Architect of the DTV business line of Philips Semiconductors. In 2000, Dr. Hu launched Boly Media Communications Inc. (now Boly media Holdings Co. Ltd. with three subsidiaries in U.S., Hong Kong, and China). Dr. Hu has published over 30 technical articles and invented over 30 patented technologies, covering computer vision, image processing, video codec, data compression, ultrasound motor, image sensor, and lens module, etc.
David Tsang is a co-founder and managing member of Acorn Campus Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in a broad range of technology startups. Previously, Tsang founded and chaired Oak Technology, which he took public. Tsang also founded Data Technology Corporation and Xebec, two companies that manufactured disk controllers. David has an MSEE from Santa Clara University.
Jie Shen is an Executive Director of Chengwei Capital, where he is responsible for the investment and management of portfolio companies in the technology, media, consumer, and education sectors, among others. Prior to joining Chengwei Capital, Mr. Shen worked in the investment banking division at Morgan Stanley. He has also held various positions at QuinStreet and Lehman Brothers earlier in his career. Mr. Shen received an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.
